Much as we love advertising, marketing and branding work, sometimes it’s great to get those projects that fall beyond the scope of ordinary business. So when the University of Central Florida (UCF) invited us to help them relaunch the UCF alumni magazine Pegasus, we jumped at the chance. UCF Marketing had just taken over the publication from the UCF Alumni Association, and they were eager to put their own stamp on things. Working side by side with their team, we helped develop an entirely new vision for Pegasus, one that goes beyond updating alumni on their fellow classmates to tell the story what the university is today: a global research leader, a technology innovator, and the second largest university in the United States.
A larger format, vibrant new design, and focus on excellent content were all part of the overall vision. Think Creative jumped in to research and write several articles, including a feature story that tackled the issue of the university’s large size, an in-depth interview with hotelier/philanthropist/UCF donor Harris Rosen, a look at an innovative program for UCF film students, and a review of the cutting-edge research coming out of the NanoScience Technology Center.
We’d hoped to make a big splash with the inaugural issue (appropriately dubbed “The Big Issue”), which came out in summer 2012. Judging by the positive feedback UCF received from alumni, we did:
“VERY impressed with the last issue of Pegasus. It’s well done in every regard.”
“Loved this edition of Pegasus! I have always been proud to be a Knight, and the info provided in the magazine keeps that passion burning!”
“What a wonderful publication–makes me proud to be in the UCF family.”
“I got your “Big Issue” in the mail this morning and WOW. As an alum, I am very proud of the growth at UCF…I enjoyed reading the magazine and look forward to the next one!”
It felt great to have our first foray into editorial work be so well received. We look forward to the next one too.
